Are you ready for Podcasting 2.0?

Hey Reader,

Your podcast has probably changed a lot since you started it.

But did you know that podcasting is changing too?

For years, the basic technology underpinning podcasting has stayed broadly the same. But now there's a movement — Podcasting 2.0 — that's evolving podcasting independently of corporate influence.

If you're a podcast listener (and I'm pretty sure you are), you'll be able to listen to and support your favourite shows no matter what platform they're on, with more of the proceeds going directly to the podcaster.

And if you're a podcaster, you can probably see how that'll benefit you too.

There are some updates coming that are collectively referred to as your Podcast Namespace which could help you to repurpose your podcast content more easily:

♣️ Soundbite: Suggested clips of your podcast that you can share with your online audience

♣️ Season: Numbered seasons/series of your podcast which will help you to better organise your content

♣️ Content Link: A link to content that's hosted outside your podcast app, such as a book you're promoting

♣️ Social Interact: A collation of comments on your podcast episode that are posted across multiple podcasting apps, which will help you to answer questions and gather feedback from your listeners

These changes won't happen all at once, and not every change will be available on every podcast listening app. But slowly and surely, your podcast experience will change for the better. And repurposing your content will help you to extend that experience beyond your podcast and deep into your listeners' lives, in their inboxes, on their social media feeds and maybe even on their bookshelves.

If you want to start repurposing your podcast content and communicating better with your target audience, shoot me a reply. I'll help you reach your ideal listeners, old and new.

Have a great day!

Hey Reader, Podcasts about podcasting are a bit meta. And podcasting about emailing for podcasters is niche. So we're about to get META NICHE. This is an email about a podcast episode that talks about emailing for podcasters. It's ok if you need to read that twice. Last week, I was so happy to guest on a podcast episode of Podcasting Smarter, the podcast that gives tips and best practices to help your podcast thrive with less effort on your end. Hey Reader, Podcast monetisation is easier than you think. A new survey showed that only 26% of indie podcasters are actively monetising their content, with other podcasters holding back from monetisation because they don’t know how or don’t have the time. The big picture: Technology has made podcast monetisation easier and more accessible. The most successful route to monetisation is through ad placements, with 27% of monetising podcasters earning through ads. Donations and selling a product...

Circa 2017, there was one sentence every marketing manager dreaded hearing. There they were in their office, listening to Rihanna and DJ Khaled sing about their Wild Thoughts, eating a unicorn bagel, when all of a sudden some VP of Sales would stick their head around the door and say, "Hey, what do you think about us starting a podcast?" Jump forward a couple of months to much frustration when that half-baked podcast didn't turn on the magic sales tap. Nowadays, most businesses know that...
